How to convert your garage into a game room

A Games Room with Pool, Air Hockey and Foosball

Do you love games? Are you thinking about finally putting use to your garage? Need some ideas for what you’d do with the extra room?

In this blog post, you’ll discover the five steps to turning your garage into a game room.

Make A Plan

It is important to think about what type of game room you want to have. Do you want more traditional board games, including family games that can be played by many people at once? Or are you a huge video gamer and want to have your electronic gaming devices all set up in one space?

Declutter

Now that you know what type of game room you want, it’s now time to decide what you’ll need to keep and what you’ll be tossing.

Items that you don’t need anymore can be tossed, sold, or donated to clear up space and decrease the amount of clutter.

For items that you do need to keep, it would be wise to find a safe place in your garage to store them out of the way of the gaming area. Once you’ve determined what’s staying and what you’re tossing out, you will be able to then give your garage a thorough cleaning to better visualize and begin the arranging process.

Measure

Once everything has been cleaned up, you’ll finally be able to officially measure the amount of space that you’ll have to design and create your game room.

Will you still need to be able to keep cars in the garage? If so, be sure to exclude that space while measuring out the area.

After drawing out where things are located in the garage – such as doors, windows, and storage areas – you can then map out exactly what you’d like for your game room to look like and where you’d like to place things. Measuring out how much square footage you’ll be working with allows for you to maximize the fun.

Refresh, Repair & Renew

Now it’s time to put your plans into action. With everything mapped out, you can start renewing the garage to provide the maximum level of comfort while you and others enjoy games in the new space. Be sure to look for any holes that need to be fixed, walls that need to be painted, and any other repairs. Think about adding additional lighting to best suit the gaming area, and what type of seating you’d like for it to include. Most importantly, don’t forget to include a sound system that can cover both your music and gaming needs.

Add Your Games!

Finally, the fun part!

After your space has finally been set up, it is time to add your games. Whether they include more traditional board games such as Monopoly or an Air Hockey table to more advanced online gaming such as Fortnite or Call of Duty, you are guaranteed to have a great time in your new game room.
